Although it’s not as snowy/icy as last year (dare I speak too soon?), I still haven’t bought myself any sort of sensible clothing for this weather. I should know better; really. I’m from the Midwest US, I know what winter is like…
But I did finally get around to looking at least. I’m not really in any hurry to buy new coats, even though my favourite red one has a large black mark on the sleeve from my leaning against an iron gate last year. (But it’s my favourite! I don’t WANT a new one!) I have been shopping around for a new pair of wellies (read: galoshes to you Colonials) and when I say ‘new pair’ I mean my ‘first pair’. Ever since I was a kid, I fought hard against the wearing of wellies. There were just so uncool. Plus, they feel massive on your feet and you end up stomping around everywhere instead of walking like a normal person. I might as well be trying to walk on the moon with the size of those things…

A pair of wellies that don't look like gardening clogs
I did find a relatively cute pair in a shop, but they were £75. SEVENTY-FIVE POUNDS?! They’d better be self-cleaning and get satellite telly for that price…
So I looked online, and I found an even cuter pair. But here’s the thing: The pair that I found were on an advert for the exact site I was visiting. Yet, the actual wellies shown in the picture were nowhere to be found. I looked all over. Now that, to me, is false advertising, but it’s very possible that even though the girl in the picture was wearing a bikini and lying on the grass in her oh-so-cute wellies*, they could very well be hidden in the Men’s section for all I know.
I have no problem with shopping online, but if the first rule of marketing is that you put a picture up of something people are going to definitely want to buy, then certainly the 2nd rule should be that said item is easy to find. I mean, if you’re going to have rule #1 but not rule #2, then rule #1 clearly didn’t work, or at least you’ll never know if it did or not.
Anyhow, I’m back perusing the shops again, since the internet has let me down, but really, my procrastination knows no bounds. Think about this: I was complaining about needing good winter boots last year at this time. And I’ll probably have another post up here next year complaining that I still haven’t bought any of the above.
It’s just the nature of me, I suppose.
*No, I do not know why she was wearing a bikini and lying in the grass whilst wearing wellies. Surely, if the weather is that nice out that you can get away with wearing a bikini, then you do not necessarily need to have wellies on.
Have you looked in the stand opposite boots in Buchananananananan Galleries? I have no idea of how much they cost but they have interesting wellies (I think)
I never think of that place! In fact, I always forget about it. I’ll have a look, thanks! (Thought I was going to have to shell out an arm and a leg for a pair, as Kath Kidston was my next stop :/ )
If I recall the Last Years’s Girl was on a mission for boots this time last year, I think she got her’s from Office…
Might be an idea to ask her.
I’m not a crazy stalker BTW… She was helping me get Annabel’s Christmas present using her work discount and we had to arrange when we could meet up….
